Living room feeling, well, dead? Staying home got you going insane? Ready to try your hand at some creative redecorating using the furniture found, forgotten or delivered to your door? I got you! Here's some new ways of looking at sofa, cabinet, and table options that will immediately lift your living room and give it a new lease on life.

Chase Down a Chesterfield

Modern sofas look great, but there’s a story in every Chesterfield design sofa. It immediately evokes an artistic spirit, a classic homeliness, and masculinity. Chestfield's are iconically leather and look better with age, but the same can be said for any well-made time-honoured sofa or lounge you can rescue for sometimes a fraction of the price of new. Whether you're decorating a brand new home with the aim of adding character or charm, or you're simply refreshing an office or living room, browse online marketplaces, auctions and charity sales to see if you can snag a statement sofa first. It's easy then to make this piece of furniture the hero, and then dress everything else around it.

Upholster Your Coffee Table!

Yes, you read hat right. You won’t believe the difference that new upholstery can make to your interiors, and that includes your tired old coffee table (or hall table, or console, or writing desk etc)! The DIY process is actually much easier than you think and can look a lot more expensive than it can be to get done professionally. First, paint the table in a neutral tone that complements the room, the other furniture pieces or the upholstery material you will be using, like leather. Then cut a piece of foam or padding to cover the shape of the tabletop exactly and fasten with double sided tape, or glue if this is a permanent solution. Next, lay the material of your choice over the top with enough hanging over the sides to meet the base of the tabletop to hammer in strip stud nails or over and under to staple or nail wrapping the top completely. You then cut and nail it into place, yielding a coffee table that looks nothing like what came before and not like much you can find in a store!

Invest In A Smart Sofa Bed

Sofas provide big households or entertaining homes with a lot of practicality and versatility, especially modern sofa beds. Dreamo Living, a furniture specialist, says that these furniture pieces are ideal when space is at a premium and guests are holidaying at your house! They allow you to instantly convert your living room, office, or den into a comfortable bedroom, allowing you to accommodate visitors, even if you don’t have a spare room. Quell connotations of dangerous, small and springy by investing in quality design and fabrication that is both attractive and durable - opened or closed.

Refinish Your Console Tables

If you have an old console table in your living room, don’t abandon it or throw it out - get creative, divulge your eco-consious DIY diva and upgrade it in some way. Start with the top surface and sand it down. Then sand the legs and the bottom shelf, if your console table has one. After that, perhaps apply a combination of paint and varnish, depending on your desired use of the top especially. If the table is made of softwood, your best bet is to paint it a neutral colour to help it look more premium. If it is hardwood, start with a couple of layers of varnish, then step back to see whether you notice any visual improvements. If it has doors, stencil, replace with glass, or add a laser cut wood pattern over the top. Top the table with glass if you are using it as a makeup desk, or simply sand and leave raw for  a rustic look.

Reupholster Old Armchairs

Armchairs can start to look a little tired after a few years or the fabric you once loved now repels you, but instead of replacing them, consider getting them reupholstered and refinished. It might save you a lot of money and allow you to continue benefiting from the frame of the chair (and your comfy spot), which will last for many more years to come.

Remember, take a walk around you home when things seem stale and move stand alone pieces about the various rooms to re-purpose. It might be then that you realise you can revitalise your living areas with even a little muscle alone.
Enjoy and happy styling!
