Add these factors to your checklist! #1: Your Finances
If you buy a house you can't properly afford, then no matter how dreamy it is; you aren't going to have a very good time living there. #2: House Features
You are unlikely to find a house with every feature you have ever dreamed about, but by creating a list of must-haves and nice-to-haves, you will be able to refer to this when looking at properties. When you find a property that ticks most of the boxes on your wish-list, you might then decide to make an offer on it before anybody else snaps it up. Consider sending this list with your contact details to a number of real estate agents that sell the types of homes you are looking for, as you can then be one of the first people they contact when a new place before available.
#3: The Local Neighbourhood
Do you want to live in a quiet rural area, with more wildlife than people to share your locale with? Or are you looking to move into a town or city with a bustling social life? Think about what your heart desires, even if its a balance or best of both, and narrow your search down to the localities that fit. Consider the amenities that are important to you too. You might want to move into an area with a gym, for example, or a nearby shopping mall, leisure centre, schools or a cinema.

#4: Your Needs
What is it you need from a dream property? Does it have to be close to your place of work or your children's school? Does it need to have room for a home office, studio, or a hobby room? If you're an advocate for sustainability, does it need to have eco-friendly features? Your needs are the prerequisites for buying a certain house; if the property doesn't fulfill your criteria, then no matter how nice it is, you might want to continue your search elsewhere.
#5: Potential for the Future
Assuming you will be living in the house long-term, you do need to think about its future potential. You might want to buy a property that will accommodate your plans for a family, for example. And you might want a property with enough kitchen and dining space to accommodate the social events and entertainment you want to host there. So keep the future in mind when house hunting, and rule out any property that holds little potential for whatever plans you have in store, unless you plan on adding an extension or renovating to allow for these requirements!
