If you're one to celebrate Easter but aren't much for filling your home with a kitsch plague of farm animals and fluffy decorations - fear not - there's some subtle decorating to do's that can help you celebrate in style.
1. Present Pastel Moments
No matter the season Easter falls in for you, there's no denying that a Spring-like colour palette of pastels define the time perfectly. Inject subtle moments of pastels throughout your decor as you celebrate Easter, be it in cushions, pillows or throws in the living room, hand towels and bath and body products in bathroom, or flower arrangements around the house. Bring the outside in with sprigs of blossoms, cottons, acorns, branches and greyed greenery. Want even less commitment to the colour scheme? A pastel candle in a sweet scent can serenely set the scene.
2. Leave Little Hints
Stash choccie eggs or candies in bowls and glass vases that work with your decor around the house and make them part of your decor. Similarly, add a few mini eggs to a napkin nest for dinners and parties over the Easter weekend. Keep your decor as neutral or as eclectic as you like it but with a little hint at the holiday. PS. Choose wrappers and colours that work with your interior scheme for even more of subtle suggestion.
"Easter is very important to me, it's a second chance."
- Reba McEntire
3. Add An Easter Wreath
If you're anything like me, you're a sucker for a door wreath to welcome seasons and holiday and set the tone for anyone who enters your home. An Easter wreath need not be all florals or all eggs, but a subtle combo of both will work as a nod to the event without being too OTT. Plus subtlety means you can keep it up a little longer than one long weekend without it being out of place. Try a DIY or buy a basic egg-tastic one from the store and add your own seasonal sprigs - fresh from your own garden or fabulously faux.
"The earth laughs in flowers."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
4. Bunnies in Vignettes
OK, let's address the bunny in the room! Although Easter is not all about the bunny, rabbits can be a symbol for new life and renewal, and if chosen in a form, colour, shape and material that works with your existing home decor they can infer the holiday perfectly. Think white washed timber types for a rustic or country style, a metallic Jeff Koons style for a modern, contemporary abode, or plain white ceramic pair for max versatility. Add your chosen bunnies to the bar cart, mantle, terranium, kids shelves, or under a cloche on your entryway sideboard vignette.
Hop to it, and enjoy an understated interior while still celebrating what's most important to you.
