5 Ways To look After Yourself Today

look after yourself pamper lifestyle australian beauty blog

We all need those reminders and nudges from time to time to take care of ourselves. When everyday life overwhelms us and we neglect our bodies and minds, it's easy to fall into unhealthy habits and lean into vices we might regret tomorrow. So here's 5 super simple ways to look after yourself that little bit more today...right here...right now...and feel better for it. x

Have an early night

When was the last time you felt completely rested? When was the last time that you woke up and felt completely refreshed and energised? We often sacrifice quality sleep in favour of working, socialising or binge watching the latest Netflix series (so.much.regret). Whilst it seems like a good idea at the time, it all begins to take its toll on our bodies, especially during the holiday season

Choose to have an early night from time to time, starting tonight if you can. Just an hour extra sleep could be all that you need to feel back to your normal self again. Be sure to switch off screens at least half an hour before you want to go to sleep, and perhaps grab a book or take a hot bath before you turn in for the day.

Drink more water

Drinking water keeps us hydrated, increases our energy and improves our concentration. It is also readily available and an easy item to tick off your list. So. Just. Do. It. Already.

If you are not in the habit of drinking water, you need to start early in the day and drink steadily throughout the day. You might struggle to get your six to eight glasses in if you don't begin drinking until mid-afternoon and are in bed by 10pm...so just keep sipping!

My best tip: get a cute bottle and a simple water filtration system and you'll want to keep refilling. And if you need a little flavour without the toxins, reach for clean electrolyte supplements to add to your water in correct doses.

“Go above and beyond for yourself! You do it for family, friends, and colleagues, but don’t forget about YOU. It’s important to include yourself… You are worthy of your own kindness, too!”
― Stephanie Lahart

Quit smoking

If you smoke then you know that quitting smoking will have a significant impact on your health and wellbeing. It might be something that you have tried to give up before or maybe you can't believe just how long you have been smoking now. In any case, make the commitment to quit smoking today and then get the support that you need to do so. Enlist the help of your closest friends and family and ask them for their support. If you can't go cold turkey you might then want to move to patches or perhaps try vaping. If so, you can check out Vape Empire for more information and products.

Give yourself a pamper and a makeover

Self care is more than long baths and love notes but a giving yourself a pamper evening and a mini makeover never hurt nobody and can be a massive tank filler and lead in to the deeper inner work and self respect. Don't make it a rarity to dedicate time to yourself like this, even when it always feels to be something more pressing to do. Look for some easy makeup tutorials to change things up a little, pop on that face mask, condition your hair and soak in a bubble bath - whatever helps you be still, breathe and re-centre.

Get moving

It does not matter what you choose to do, just move! Be flexible to trying new things that feel good and to find something that you enjoy and can master. You might walk the dog, jog around the block, hit the gym or just dance around your kitchen to tunes that speak to your soul. Any amount of movement is better than none, so have fun with it and then you can pat yourself on the back for looking after your body as a by-product of simply the joy of movement.
