America is a nation that feels like more than one country. In fact, each state feels like its own country. It’s such a diverse place. The arid landscape of Nevada feels completely separate to the snowy landscape of Alaska. There’s a reason as to why so many Americans travel domestically rather than internationally. There’s so much to explore in this vast country that no single person can ever really see it all. But how do you plan a trip to the States? Which destinations are worth seeing? Well, if you’re an explorer with a passion for travelling then here are 4 of the most adventurous states to visit in the U.S.
“Adventure is worthwhile in itself.”
One of the first states you need to visit is the beautiful Sunshine State. This wouldn’t be a list of the best states to visit in America if we failed to visit California. It’s a state with much more to offer than sunshine, however. Even the sunny city of Los Angeles is more than just the home of rich celebrities. Sure, you can relax on Venice Beach and enjoy the rides on Santa Monica Pier, but you can also head up the Hollywood Hills to get a scenic view of the city from a great height. Or head to the Griffith Observatory and admire a beautiful building whilst gazing up at the stars through the telescope. It's the best of both worlds.
Of course, L.A. is only one city of many in Cali. Even the coastal drive to nearby San Francisco is worth it too. The cable cars, Alcatraz Island, and Lombard Street are examples of the best things to see in this stunning city. When you’re on Alcatraz Island, make sure you check out the gardens; it’s fascinating that a place with such a dark history can now be home to such beautiful natural greenery.

Whilst L.A. and San Francisco are often the obvious choices for travellers who are visiting California, San Diego is not to be missed whilst you’re in the state and offers plenty of adventure itself. It’s a great city with a lot of fun things to see and do. Balboa Park is a particularly beautiful little park with some Japanese gardens that are well worth seeing. Little Italy, romantically lit at night, features quaint little restaurants serving authentic Italian food in the centre of the city. The USS Midway Museum is worth visiting too; especially if you’re interested in upping your knowledge about a fascinating piece of history.
Wherever you go in California, there are plenty of incredible things to see and do. There are many places in the world that offer sunshine, and there are many places in the world that offer fantastic sights, but California is one our favourite states to visit if you want both.

SEQUOIA NP, CA
TEHACHAPI LOOP, CA
Florida is the east coast’s answer to California, but they’re two very different states. Start off by visiting Miami. This city has everything from soaring skyscrapers in the downtown area to relaxing beaches by the ocean. Be sure you check out South Beach (known as SoBe) in the Miami Beach area. As the name suggests, it’s home to long stretches of crisp white sand that’s perfect for any adventurer who needs a quick break on a sun lounger. There are plenty of great annual events in the city too. The SoBe Wine and Food Festival is always fun, and the Winter Music Conference is great if you’re thinking of travelling to Florida later in the year.
Whilst you’re visiting the east coast, you can’t miss all of the theme parks and other vibrant attractions on offer. Famous destinations such as Disney World are huge draws for tourists. The Orlando Resort is definitely worth a visit. Whether you’re a big fan or not, Disney holds some nostalgic value for all of us. Plus, the resort is a fun theme park in itself for big and little kids alike. You might also want to see the page for the Fantasy World Entertainment theme park that travels all over the eastern United States.
Another great for big adventure is Texas. It’s a huge state with fascinating cities to explore and vast desert landscapes. Obviously, Dallas is an exciting and vibrant city to explore, but you should also check out Austin whilst you’re there. There’s so much to see and do in this massive warm weathered city. There are plenty of fantastic bars in the downtown area that play live music; make sure you check out the wild house bars on Rainey Street. But there are also plenty of incredible nature-based trails for hiking or biking. It’s definitely a win to visit if you love outdoor activities, balanced plenty of great things to see and do in the heart of the city. If you’re a fan of barbecue food then you’re in luck. Franklin Barbecue is Austin's most famous barbecue restaurant, and it’s well worth visiting. This state has it all.
Washington (not to be confused with Washington DC) is a brilliant state to visit if you want to see some fantastic cities with a long history and exciting culture. Make sure you head to Port Angeles to see the Olympic Park, first of all. This beautiful natural area is the very definition of picturesque. It’s an idyllic paradise in a large and overwhelming city. There are even mineral springs and water for swimming. Make sure you also head to Mount Rainier. This national park is absolutely stunning and perfect for anyone who loves an outdoor adventure. You could go climbing or hiking if you want to experience the area in an exhilarating way.
"Then one day, when you least expect it, the great adventure finds you."
