Enjoying he best views of the city and the bridge without leaving the city at Lands End lookout and on the Land End trail the winds around the Legion of Honor Museum. And you can drive through and walk through to various spots along this stunning route to get the perfect snapshot memento.
San Francisco is one of our favourite places to visit in California and one of our favourite places we have visited thus far in the world! It's a beautiful diverse melting pot (or more like freezing pot) of people, places and culture. And this won't be our last visit.
Rich in history, it has an array of interesting structures, architecture and places to explore - the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the Painted Ladies throughout the city been popular examples. We love the ease and narration of the hop on hop off buses and used them to their full extent on our first trip, then had our van this trip which meant we could explore a little more...and actually drive down the hairpins of Lomard Street ourselves. But taking the iconic cable car is also a must do - loud, crowded, open to the elements and clinging to the slopes of the streets with almost comical ease is quite the sight!
THE BAY & PARKS
As far as exploring Mother Nature goes, San Fran delivers in the form of the most majestic yet terrifyingly windy Bay with plenty of activities to access it via the Embarcadero on the city side and Sausalito to the North. The Botanical Gardens and everything to see at Golden Gate Park are well worth a day of your time.
WHERE TRENDS ARE BORN
Food, shopping, tech, fashions, music - one could easily believe that the birth of all ideas, great and small, were born in this incredible city. It's home to so many ways of life - from seafarers, to startups, vamp and vintage - it makes it a treat for all the senses and one very special destination on The Adventures of Ben & Sam.
With a few hours to spare in the city, we hired some Blazing Saddles bikes and did a leisurely ride up along the foreshore to the Warming Hut under the bridge before we realised we had 30mins to blaze it back with the wind in our faces!
A stop (and lineup) at Mr Holmes Bakehouse is well worth the wait - if not for the flaked-to-perfection dusted and custard filled cronuts of every variety, but for the instagram's of the boxes, the floors and the walls. #getbaked
Stopping on our bike ride up to the bridge to say hi to Alcatraz Island in the middle of the bay- a place we visited and thoroughly enjoyed on our last trip. I'd go again just to film it. On a rainy day would be even better!
Chillin with Rodin's the Thinker in the courtyard of the Legion of Honor Fine Arts Museum - obviously a must-see for art lovers but also for cool snaps around the architecture, sculptures in the parklands and the uninterrupted views at it's entrance.
